Religious Education
The AMS Catechist Training Manual is for use in the certification process of
all catechists working in the religious education programs at our military facilities. The program is
intended to standardize the approach that is needed by all catechists in working with our highly
mobile military community. It is hoped that all who participate in our religious education programs
will be sensitized to and supportive of a welcoming atmosphere supporting a consistent methodology in working
with our students.
The program is underway. All catechists in our Catholic RE programs are be
certificated by the AMS by the Summer of 2007. Catechists who have already completed a program
conducted by their civilian (arch)diocese may be able to receive credit for that training.

AMS Catechetical Program:
The AMS is currently reviewing possible catechetical programs for grades K-8, and for High
School. Suggestions/recommendations from current military RE coordinators and teachers of the
Catholic program are welcomed and solicited.
Send your suggestions to the Chancellor.
Although the implementation of a standardized syllabus and resource has never been mandated, the
current development of increased numbers of installations without a Catholic priest-chaplain may
require such an implementation so
that our military families can experience a consistent and predictable program of instruction - especially
during change-of-station activites.
