The
Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA has nearly a centurys
worth of journeying with our large Catholic community of young service
men and women and their families through the efforts of our priest-chaplains
and those who are able to support them.
Like all families, we are united by a common faith in Christ Jesus
and his Church and a common service to our country, sharing the
journey.
Everyone has important people who have accompanied
them through certain critical moments of their lives. The military
experience creates a similar bond.
Sharing
the journey was central to Our Lord Jesus while on Earth. He shared
His life, ministry, and death with the Apostles, His constant companions.
Jesus journeys with us still, through His Spirit, in the Sacraments,
and through His Church. His presence to our military family is assured
through the presence of our priest-chaplains.
Sharing Our Journey
We are pleased to invite you now to share the journey with us. This
year, the Archdiocese for the Military Services is creating
exciting pastoral innovations that respond to the needs of our Catholic
military family, for which we need your support.

Goals and Initiatives
A.
Catholic Faith Renewal
Over 300,000 Catholic young men and women are in the U.S. military.
Priest-chaplains regularly describe these young people as sincere,
devoted to their country, and full of questions about their religion.
To support these young people and the renewal
of their faith, the Archdiocese for the Military Services has begun
planning for a program geared to the faith formation of this community.
You can participate in the renewal of our young military peoples
faith with your gift.
B. Pastoral Visits
Our military bishops crisscross
the globe year round visiting installations and celebrating Confirmations.
The bishops regularly enable a new generation of Catholic military
children to receive the Sacraments, a constant source of comfort
through life.
Anything you can give helps to assure that the
Archdiocese for the Military Services is present to its people.
C. Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Recently, a new director was hired specifically to support programs
for youth and young adults. Pressing needs include establishing
a strong network of lay leaders and the promotion of more young
adult programs on military bases.
One
of the main communication tools for young adults today is the Internet.
Youth and young adults use the Internet for information to connect
with their peers. The Military Archdiocese has begun an interactive
section on this Website to support those needs.
Your support of this initial project and others
will make our dreams a reality.
D. Vocations
With so many young, faithful Catholic men in our military, the harvest
is potentially rich for vocations to both the priesthood and the
military chaplaincy. Your generous gift can support vocations work
in two ways:
You can sponsor registrations for Discernment
Days, the Military Archdioceses annual discernment weekend
held for young servicemen considering the priesthood. Your gift
may also promote the Military Archdioceses Co-Sponsorship
Program to both young candidates and their bishops as a way to encourage
young men to consider becoming a military chaplain. This will help
to address the critical shortage of Catholic priests in the military.
